Walk and Talk Therapy

Therapy that moves with you

A change of scenery can make a real difference. Walk-and-talk therapy is counselling that takes place while walking outdoors, combining gentle movement with conversation.

Sessions are held in the peaceful surroundings of Leazes Park in Newcastle, just a 10-minute walk from St James Metro station and close to the city centre.

Walk-and-talk therapy follows the same structure as traditional counselling, with a few practical adjustments to suit being outdoors. The natural setting offers a grounding, supportive space to explore what’s on your mind.

A new perspective

Walk and Talk Therapy

Moving your body and shifting your surroundings can help you see things from a new perspective, especially when life feels stuck or unmovable.

Walking side by side can feel more relaxed, easing the pressure of direct eye contact and allowing conversation to flow more naturally.

Walk-and-talk sessions can also be beneficial if you don’t often get time in nature, or if you know you feel better when you do.

A sense of calm and connection

Spending time outdoors can gently ease feelings of anxiety, stress, or being stuck. The natural environment can feel calming and restorative, supporting reflection, mindfulness, and improved mood.

Walking together offers gentle physical movement and can make sessions feel more grounded, allowing conversation to flow more easily.

What to expect

Our first session usually takes place online, giving us a relaxed space to talk about what brings you to therapy and to go over confidentiality. After that, if it feels right, we can take our sessions outdoors and meet in the park for walk-and-talk sessions.

We usually meet at the same location, but we can choose a different spot if that feels more comfortable for you. We’ll walk at a pace that suits you, whether that’s a steady walk or a gentle stroll.

Our walks may be circular, or we’ll decide together when it feels right to turn back. Some routes offer places to pause, reflect, or sit, and you’re welcome to spend only part of the session walking.

We’ll choose the route together each week, or we can follow the same familiar path each time, whatever helps you feel most at ease.

Weather: If the weather isn’t ideal, or if you’d prefer, sessions can be moved online instead.

Confidentiality: If we happen to see someone you know, we can pause the conversation or change direction until you feel comfortable to continue.

Ethics: Walk-and-talk sessions are offered in line with professional and ethical guidelines to ensure they remain safe and supportive.

Pace: Your session moves at your pace, whether you’d like to walk, pause, or sit and reflect.

You’re welcome to explore what matters to you in a way that feels comfortable.
